Commissioning a Portrait

Prices range from £2000 to £8000 for a large group, plus travel expenses.

For an average sized portrait, I take about ten two-hour sittings, including breaks. If appropriate to the painting it can sometimes be done in less time, but good results cannot be rushed.

The planning stage usually takes about two preliminary meetings, but until a commission has been definitely agreed I make no assumption that it will be.

A portrait is a serious commitment in time so I am as flexible as possible to help fit sittings into even the tightest of schedules. Many people are surprised that it is possible to make the time, and surprised that it comes to be seen as a welcome oasis in their busy lives. It can be thinking or planning time, listening time, or talking time.
